Can you run a Zero stack headset where the top and bottom are different brands (and quality) without problems?

Ive got a new Hope lower cup and an old cheepo FSA top cup (I've just replaced the cheap lower FSA as it was knackered). There is movement coming from around the top cup now (even though the top cup bearing is solid enough).

Any body had similar experiences?

Help!

shouldnt be a problem but check you still have about 3mm gap between the top of the stem and the top of the steerer as it sounds like you may have the top cap bottoming out on the steerer.

Do you have the split ring in the top bearing to locate the steerer?

I do have the 3mm you mention so it isnt bottoming out. I don't have a split ring in the top bearing, i've had them before in past headsets and they seem to support the bearing! I tightened it up as much as I could, went out for an hour and the play was back...
