The article is right though - I always wanted a Zaskar.
Don't remember those particular tyres though, Tioga Psycho's were where it was at when I got into MTB...

Lovely bikes, I did always want a zaskar.

That faux carbon deore rear mech, I've just found the whole group set on my mums old bike (which is now mine) are they worth anything?

Pinkbike in good article shocker!

I read that last night. Brought back memories of lust for a Zaskar

are they worth anything?

DX stuff is quite sought after. You might be pleasantly surprised.

That's a really interesting photo - looks like someone has hung a load of scrap on a modern frame.

I guess that says a lot for how ahead of its time that frame was.

Saw that last night. Quite interesting. I cant remember Farmer Johns Cousin tyres, but did have a Farmer Johns Nephew on the front of my Giant around 1998. I do remember it being pretty useless in most conditions.

The black bit on the Deore rear mech isn't meant to look like carbon fibre, it was just ridged IIRC.
Still got my bent 1996 Zaskar LE in the garage roof, shorn of all components. Great bike at the time.

I remember seeing Zaskars in the magazines - it always seemed to be the bike to WIN races on.

Good old Bear Traps! Always found more traction on your shin than your shoe. Looked cool though.

Still riding my 96 Zaskar, the one thing I'd never consider selling, rode it single speed at SSUK, putting gears on next week and it'll trundle round the 24/12 with me.

I also have a 91 frame like in the article from the 1st year, going to make it into a snow bike when I make the time....

If you think that looks modern for its time check out Cunningham bikes from the early 80's - long sloping top tubes, steep angles, short chainstays, oversized Al, they were really the genesis of the modern mountain bike.
