Arrived yesterday but did not feel the need/desire to read/skim untill today.
Usually after reading I,ve felt the need to drop whatever I was doing and go ride but for the last couple of months is been a bit of a dissapointment.Maybe its me and my busy life these days but endless interviews and kit that does not affect my usual riding and throwing in photos of someones(sorry Steve)endless summer photos.
Not to sure what I want more from the mag that they have not done maybe more reader input/photos more about riding in the uk(as its far to expensive to ride anywhere else).
Anyone else got any thoughts.

Rich

P.s Enjoyed MBUK in WHS yesterday ๐Ÿ˜•

Pretty much thought the same as you Rich & far too many interviews for my liking, one or at the very most two per issue is plenty.
It looks like they've put this months mag together as cheaply as possible & with very little thought imo ..... ๐Ÿ˜•

Personally I can't be arsed to read other peoples accounts of their rides or look at pictures of them riding let alone be inspired by them.

But then I'm a grumpy bastard.

TMB: don't think you'd get a journalist's job with grammar like that in any case ๐Ÿ˜€

Assuming I could string a couple of sentences together, how would it make it anymore interesting, reading my own material.....

I stopped buying mtb mags ages ago. I fond they where full of adverts and repeated or contradicted themselves. I prefer the forums for info personally.

This was the Interview Issue in the whole themes scheme of things.

Next issue is "The Joy of Filth"

Mine came yesterday. At first glance it seemed o.k. to me, although not a stellar issue.
I read the ride guide, as I've not long come back from a week in the North York Moors, but that's it so far.
I'll have another nose tonight.

New fonts please Sim. A triumph of style over readability on some of those headlines. Otherwise, Keep Calm And Carry On ๐Ÿ™‚

I really like the themes idea, but I suppose that they're more likely to mean someone doesn't like the magazine. I usually really like the interviews, so am loking forward to seeing if my copy has arrived.

I do most of my reading on the bog and I struggle when the articles are too long-I either don't get to the end or I find it too hard to multi task. Prefer lots of short articles/reviews. Never thouht i'd say it but bought mbuk for the first time in about 10 years and it found it does the job surprisingly well.

Not worth it IME, I've sent in articles and photos and despite asking repeatedly have heard nothing back. Don't mind being told it's crap and they're not going to run it (I know I'm not a great writer) but at least have the decency to tell me something.

i bought the mag for the first time, i normally buy 'mountain biking- uk' ...anyway i wasnt too impressed with the Danny MacAskill interview and 'not' inspired with the choice of 'picture'- (i mean come on ..who wants to see a full page of a football stadium and theres Danny squeezed in at the top left hand corner ? there should have been a pic of him flipping off a wall or bouncing off that famous tree !!!!
anyway since he has become famous..the 'boys in blue' seems to leave him alone, as they hated what he did wen he was younger and i had to laugh where it saif they confescated his bike from him for a whole summer holidays ! lol oh dear..

Yep agree to a point, if you don't like, then buy another mag or contribute.

NBT, same thing, strung along with promises for a while then nout.
Don't mind at all(honestly) being told i'm shit, do mind the discourtesy.

Result, didn't renew subscription.

Well, we're on holiday in London and it arrived in time for me to bring it with us. Unfortunately, we are in our hotel room, sitting in the dark in the vain hope our nearly two year old will fall asleep soon. These are less than optimum reading conditions. May report back later.

I haven't read mine yet, just flicked through as usual. First impression was that the print quality of many of the photos was not up to scratch. Steve's summer photos have faded patches across them that look like printing defects.

not that absorbant though, what with the shiny paper.

Well I like this issue (although I'm biased as there are several pictures of my ankles in it). I'm not usually a big fan of interviews as I don't relate well to a lot of the industry personalities. Read the Rowen Sorrel one though, but then that's vaguely relevant to me because he's worked on both Lee Quarry and Gisburn Forest which are local.

As long as the mag keeps it's down to earth riders first approach then it'll have a market and be my preferred read (I also get MBR & WMB but prefer Singletrack). Keep it relevant to what most of us do (which is talk about mountain biking, buy mountain bike related bits and sometimes ride, in the UK), don't get sidetracked with the exotic or the famous too often because that's not what mountain biking is about for lots of us. I'd rather read an amusing column from someone I've never heard of than the wisdom of some suspension God, but that's just me.

Best articles of late have been those around the technical side of keeping fit and how to prepare for races etc. Bit technical but good intelligent reading. Not at all impressed by most of the so called product reviews. Last month's on GPS systems was pathetic. I also seem to recall in the past the photography was spectacular - the sort of photographs you would rush to share with others. Need to do better for me to renew subs next time i think

I had a column accepted a couple of years ago and got a few emails from Chipps with suggestions for changes and requests for pitures etc. If I remember rightly these were generally sent very late at night, Chipps etc probably put in a lot more hours at work than I do. I've never gotten round to doing another one, too busy with work and raising a family. It sometimes looks like it's the same people writing the columns but don't know if this is because they are in the STW gang. I sent some pictures of Torridon which I thought were worthy of a place in the magazine but didn't hear anything back. Feel free to correct my grammer by the way.

i opened it up, and skimmed through, and for the first time in a while thought, theres not much in there that interests me. It seems like the whole load of interviews was just a way to fill out the magazine.
I may be wrong, but it felt like MBR this month, i hope this is not the beginning of the end, i used to love reading the well written, inspirational articles that were unique to singletrack, been noticing a slip for the last couple of issues

Chipps did say there would be more for us ladeez.
I suppose the interview with Benjimans girlfriend and Fay can be counted.

I liked the cover photo and the one by Gary (editors page).
But agree about stuff abroad, it's too expensive for most of us and I prefer stuff that's written about and shot in our own country.

Haven't read it since my subscription ran out. Full of waffle, interviews with people I've never heard of & stories of nowt that go on & on & on without getting to a point. In fact last time I saw it in my LBS I didn't even flick through it.

I like the style of the mag, and its 'feel'. Would hate for it to become an over-produced glamour shoot like all the other mainstream mags.

Perhaps this is why Chipps has taken a sabbatical; it can't be easy coming up with something different every edition. There may have been a move to new premises, a couple of new faces and maybe a new coffee machine but the magazine pretty much revolves around the same group of people out of the same town as it always has. Plus, you can never please all of the people all of the time...

I'd say that under the circumstances they're keeping it going well and manage to refresh the format fairly regularly. They'll be featuring DH bikes soon for goodness sake, whatever next ๐Ÿ™„

I enjoyed the interviews (possibly because I've met a couple of the interviewies). I like the idea of a larger gallery of readers' photos (but by a handfull of readers, not just by one person!) and would like to see reader submitted articles printed even if they aren't up to journalist standard. I still look forward to reading it each issue.
