Is the waiting list just a wee shred of comfort something that genuinely might provide a place?

Some folk get severe attacks of remorse when the real weather starts up, so stay hopeful. ๐Ÿ™‚

just been told by my wife that i cant enter this. it is the 1st time in our 25yr marriage that she has told me i cant do something.
she told me that doing something like this 5 months after heart surgary would be pretty stupid.

Just tell her Ranulph Fiennes ran seven marathons on seven continents four months after a heart attack.

He also cut his fingers off with a jig saw in his shed.

We're in as a quad. Think we'll also have three pairs teams and a solo. Luckily the guy doing our mechanical support likes to be kept busy!!

BTW If you're solo and riding a singlespeed make sure you tick the box.

I will be on a single speed, but only if I break my main bike and need to bring out the backup

That makes him an idiot, not a hero.

Do celebs (and reigning champs) have to sign up with the plebs then?

I had my people make the necessary arrangements.
You can edit your entry if you forgot to tick the SS box, like I did ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm in. Quite looking forward to it as I've never done a 24hr race before.

I'm not buying that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fingers crossed the organisers will reduce the number of quads / teams of 10 to let the oversubscribed categories have more places...

Would also be good if the waiting list could be published as I don't fancy doing loafs of training if there's no chance of a place.

Are any of the organisers on here / any chance of making the list visible??

Well this is a good start to my 'puffer training. I'm currently sitting at home looking out the window at the strengthening wind and darkening clouds and I'm thinking I shouldn't go for a ride because it looks too cold. Oh well. I guess I've got about 9 weeks to MTFU and get used to the idea.

I'm in exactly the same situation. TV on, strong winds, rain, can't really be bothered...

Don't go for a ride, that's wasted effort.

This is how to train for the Puffer:

Fill a bag with your warmest stuff
Put on your skimpiest cycling outfit
Climb to the top of the highest exposed windy hill in your neigbourhood, preferably while it's sleeting
Sit down beside your bag of warm stuff and ignore it.
Continually repeat the mantra "This is stupid, I could stop right now"
Do this until you can bear it no more.
Look at your warm gear sitting in its bag.
Ignore it, repeat the mantra.
Once you can stay awake until dawn doing this, you're ready for the 'Puffer. ๐Ÿ™‚

They just do it like anyone else. I think they have introduced some age limits in the last few years, or parental consent restrictions, but there are no age classes.

My daughter did it solo on a singlespeed when she had just turned 13, and another twice, so they are not against young people doing it.

I don't think they allow that kind of hit around here. I think I shall be the anchor man of the team. Holding the gazebo down in the wind whilst the other 3 get the laps in.
