[#8454440]

a week ago a mate went to dismount his bike in the woods only to find the pedal attached to his shoe still.
then he noticed that actually the whole non-drive crank was attached to his shoe and not his bike.

little difficult to work out exactly what happened but managed to re attach the HTII crank, tightened the preload (plastic tyre lever is the right width!) and bolt it back together. It held for the next two hours, but finally ripped itself apart again on the way home, leaving a two mile walk up hill..

he just called me from the shed, getting his HT(spare bike) ready for tonights ride. its got a broken spoke.

i reckon that if all the other spokes are ok, it will be fine, if he is nice to it

how long till his rear wheel pringles tonight?
how far will he walk home?
who is the biggest bike killer you know?

That'll be me. Bearings, doesn't matter how good they are I destroy them. My LBS despair of me.

He'll be fine.

I've snapped four frames in recent years (one titanium, two steel and one aluminium) and have snapped multiple cranks.

Was well pissed off when one of my bottom brackets died after only 43,000 miles. I don't ride as much now though.

Tell him to buy an alloy preload adjuster, if he's not overtightened the two crank bolts too much, this will work.
