Happy tale... just driving up to the car park exit at QE Park and see something fall off a car just leaving about 50metres ahead. Its a wheel! I clock that its a dark coloured hatchback and a bright red or orange bike on the rack but not much else. The gate lets me out, I jump out, grab the wheel (29er, with an Ardent tyre), chuck it in the back and think I’ll catch him on the A3 and follow him! Get to the slip road, in what I think is a few seconds after he’s gone and theres a big white Lexus sat there, not using the handy slip road to join the A3, but waiting for a gap, the moron. Eventually he goes, so I speed past and think I’ll catch the other car and spot the bike.. nope, couple of junctions and don’t see him, so think maybe he went north... just about to overtake a car and see on the exit lane a bright bike on a dark car! Do a move I hate to see and pull in behind the car i was overtaking, exit on the slip road and catch the car! Yes its a bright orange Voodoo with just a front wheel! Don’t pull out don’t pull out! I flash, beep, wave... and jump out to a worried looking fella “you lost something?!” And reunite him with his rear wheel! Man, those old wheel QRs were rubbish eh? 😁

Oh, for those worried about the legality/safety aspect of my pursuit, I don’t think I went over 80mph 😬

Well done to you 😀

Few years back returning from Skye spotted what looked like a 24" front by the roadside, but not a stretch you could stop on so couldnt get to it.

Wasnt there a thread on here a few years back of someones bike nearly falling off their rack and it got dragged all the way home. The upper section at the bars was literally ground away.

I though that was extremely funny, but played the sad for you bit mate 🙁 😆 just seeing 1/2 a brake lever, neatly ground away was hilarious*.
.
*Sorry if it was someone on here or posted from elsewhere and they were devastated for the loss/damage.

It annoys me when you come out of QECP and see people not using that slip road and instead they sit at the junction waiting for a massive gap to suddenly appear, use the slip road and the traffic moves lane ready for you to join

There are some serial front wheel losers at QECP, normally the finder of the wheel posts it on the QECP Facebook page and everyone kinda knows who it belongs to and the mocking begins

A few years ago we were driving the Western Outback of Australia, absolute middle of nowhere, and saw something in the road. Stopped to look and it was a book and a USB hard drive. Had a look on the hard drive and it was the back up photos of someone's trip round Australia. Luckily there were a few pictures with them and their van. A couple of days later we saw them at a campsite. Not crazy odds and there weren't that many roads or that many campsites. Returned the items, they were pretty surprised, I don't think they even knew they missing. In fact I'm not totally sure they believed us. They had a roof rack for luggage so I reckon it fell out of a side pocket of a bag.

Yeah, lots of folk wait on those a3 slip roads. Tbf though, some of the A3 ones (Not qecp) are a fraction too short unless you have a mega German progress-wagon.

The same thing happens on the exit from my local supermarket (onto a dual carriageway)
If only people understood that it's easier to merge when you're travelling at the same speed as the traffic

The OP sounds like what would happen if you got Victor Meldrew to play the part of Mary Poppins in Bullet 🙂

Like.

But I don't miss the good old days when I had to remove the front wheel to get the bikes in the Landie. It was habit to rest the front wheel against one of the rear wheels and more than once I drove off only to be overtaken by my bikes front wheel in the car park!

Now have a van that bikes fit in, wheels on.
