[#3212700]

I'm needing some new XTR (M970) chainrings & as they are silly prices I'm looking for some alternatives. I've seen some Middleburn ones but they only seem to fit it M960.

I only really need the middle & inner.

Any Ideas?

I think you'll struggle to get a big ring that goes on but I've heard that XT should fit. Never tried it myself.

What I did was find someone who has bought a set of new cranks and gone single and buy the new rings from them. You can usually pick up a set for £100-ish.

Any more than that and they are milking it a bit.

err ... blatant plug but I've got a mint set on the classifieds.
Happy to do a deal on them.

There's always people on here selling sets of chainrings like floki above (I've got a full set in my garage that I'm not sure what to do with at the moment). Renthal chainrings are lovely things, but they're single ring specific so will not work in a triple set up, and they also give a funny chainline on my m970, I've had to move the NDS BB spacer to the DS to get the chainline right.

W-D,

M970 is standard 4-bolt 104mm and 64mm BCD.

Middleburn offer all the sizes and hardcoat / slickshift options for these cranks.

XTR will possibly be lighter for inner and outer, but the composite middle is approx 60g versus 40g for XT alloy and 80g for a Deore steel.

Lightest rings are TA Specialities, but not 'hardcoated'.
