Quick compatibility check for any experts able/willing to help me out (before I call hope in the morning)...

Likely yes.
I couldn't decide between I-spec or not with my new xtr group, so bought normal ones and the I-spec conversion. I was a bit surprised that the conversion included the different mounting part and an attached complete shifter cover. Couldn't see the difference in the covers though, and so you might well be able to use non I-spec shifters with those hope adapters.
