Does anybody have the newer style 970 series xtr dual control set up.If so what do you think of them? Any feedback would be great as I currently have the older style xt set up and want to go full xtr.Cheers.

I wouldn't touch dual control myself, you bust your lever you loose your gears.....

Been running my older xt set up for 4-5 years now and haven't bust my levers yet 😀

I've been riding (offroad) since 1994 and not bust a lever yet, I don't think I'd worry 🙄
I had the older 960 dual controls and the pivots got a bit loose and started to rattle (still worked fine) after about 4000 miles.

I have the new style XT levers (£50 a pair at CRC, deal of the century).

Absolutely love them - sturdy, shift very well (can do multiple shifts in one stroke which I gather was lacking from the earlier version). Easy reach adjustment, not-so-easy-but-still-tool-free bite point adjustment. Becomes second nature after a couple of rides.

Think the XTR levers are a fair bit lighter than XT too, but I liked the price too much on the XT levers to be tempted.

To add some balance to that post - they are however sinfully ugly.

I'll learn to love them.

I have the older XT syle ones.Been on the bike for 3 years and no problems.

I love how intuitive, the shifting is,light lever action and ability to simulataneously shift and brake.

Never had the mis-shift on bumpy ground that the naysayers go on about.

Personally I think the levers are less likely to break, than conventional ones, due to the movement in the vertical axis.

Currently having a dilemma,as I really liked the Elixirs,(much stronger than the XTs) on an Epic I recently tried, but wondering if I can go back to rapidfire....

I bought some 'brand new' ones off the classifieds here and I think they are fantastic. Had the old xtr shifters before and I thought they were good but the dual control is in another league. Being able to down shift when hard on the brakes is a joy

Do the XTR ones look a heck of a lot more neat and compact than the XTs or is it just the picture on CRC? I am after a pair of XT shifters so that looks like a good deal?

I thought they were crap - until I tried them - now I'm sold.

Been running DCLs for 5 years now, older XTs and new XTRs.

The broken lever thing doesn't register with me. I've never broke a lever and I've never been with anyone who has.

DCLs are fantastic, imo, just like others here, I really like the the whole shifting experience using these levers. All my bikes run DCLs, which are pretty much standard now in road bikes anyway.
for some they can take a bit of getting use-to, but give it a month and you're flying.
😀
I've got the XTR calipers to go with.

I'd hate to go back, I always found the levers on shifter pods got in the way of my thumb wrapping around the underside of the grip.

I've got XTR DC's on my Spark & think they're great. Quick flick of the little lever when I need a shorter gear & it's there in an instant.

I do have XTR rapdfires on my Scale & can't really faulty them either to be honest but I do find the DC a neater option.
Only downside is the Shadow type derraileur is not available in rapid rise & I think the cable routing is much better with the Shadow model

Just bought a set of the XT DC's from CRC too. At that price would be mad not to. I'll swap them for my old model XT DC's on one of my winterbikes.

(never broken a lever either but then I ride XC & not AM)
