Torn between ordering a pair of XT wheels and a pair of Mavic 717's with XTR hubs.....
What would be the better option for a lightweight wheel set?
Second option. XTR hubs will last waaaay longer, and you'll never have a faff getting spare spokes. Have you thought about stans 355 rims instead? If you're thinking of tubeless then they will be cheaper overall than a DT kit on a 717s.
Would you run them tubeless? If not then XTR with normal rim sounds like the better route to me.
soul kozak on stans with dt revs lightest you can get without going carbon, my front disk is 578 grams, rear when built will be about 712grams seem to be pretty strong as they are self built and I'm about 14 stone and ride all mountain
If it was XTR / Mavic's it would be the Merlin bundled ones with the XTR disc brakes.
Would like the option to go tubless, just to see if it's all as its cracked up to be...
The option is there.. I'm running some 717s with eclipse rim strips. They're apparently the same ones as in the DT kit for the 4.1/4.2s.. You can skin that badger many different ways!
i know someone with a pair of XT tubeless wheels, as new, (never fitted or used) who is looking to sell,
will point him in this direction....
Hi megastream,
Ive got a pair of XT tubeless wheels for sale if you were interested in both getting a pair of shimano wheels and exploring the possibilities of going tubeless (although of course you can run them with tubes too). They are advertised on here - http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-shimano-xt-778-tubeless-wheels-1
As the advert says the rear is completely brand new and the front has only had very light use. All with everything you could need to go tubeless apart from a pair of tubeless tyres of your choice!!
Feel free to drop me an email if your interested!!
