Just bought a Giant Anthem that has an XT shadow rear mech. I'd like to try my old 9 spd wheels but unsure if the cassette is suitable. What should I look out for? I suspect the 'shadow' element might require a cassette with different spacing between cogs or something?

Is it a 9 speed or 10 speed shadow rear mech? If 9 speed then you'll be fine.
'Shadow' means it has a slimmer profile to avoid rock hits and stuff 😀

9 & 10 spd freehubs are identical in size so just stick the cassette that came with the giant on to your old rear wheel and you should be sorted 🙂
