Clutch needs lubing

I'd say the pivot behind the clutch needs attention not the clutch it's self.
You need to remove the cage and return spring then clean and grease the bush at the rear of the clutch.
Easy enough to do.
Have a look on the One-up site they have a video that shows you how to remove the cage when fitting a Rad cage.

On my XT8000 rear mech, there's a wee rubber grommet, adjacent to the upper jockey wheel. Remove that and dribble some oil in.

Not the clutch, its sticks when the clutch is off.
Cheers stu, I'll check and clear the return spring up, didn't think of looking at the one up website.

It's the brass bush and cage pivot that needs cleaning up not the spring it's self
The pivot has a small o ring on it that'll need cleaning too.

Could this be the reason that my (3 rides old) XT8000 was leading to chain suck on the front ring yesterday? To be fair you couldn't see it for sticky horrible claggy muck 🙂

Not necessarily - unfortunately even with a new XT8000 groupset this happens more so than with other set ups. At least with mine anyway.

Yeah, I regularly have to strip mine down and re-lube everything to keep it working - worst Shimano mech I've ever had. Strangely, the SLX M7000 one I have on another bike has been faultless so far!

I've never seen chainsuck on a single ring set up come to think of it!.

I wondered whether it was something to do with the thick/thin arrangement.

I've a 1x SRAM set up on the full suss. Faultless.

I've had to strip one of those down to get it working again, so it's not an issue unique to the XT.
