As above, have broken my xt m775 lever and would like to replace with an m785 lever so i can use i spec clamps, does anyone know if the master cylinders are compatible.

Also if i was to go with this option, is the barb insert specific to the hose or the lever, so will i require the brass coloured or the silver insert?

No idea, I'm running XT levers with SLX calipers, because both XT calipers went pop and pissed fluid everywhere, and they seem ok.
