[Closed] XT inner ring fitting

Got a new inner ring, its a 64mm Shimano XT. Can't make it fit. All 4 bolts are greased and go in smoothly without the ring. Have aligned the ring with the "lump" by the crankarm, but I can't screw more than 2 bolts in by hand. old ring goes on ok.
Any ideas, subtly wrong ring ? ham fisted numpty ?

**edit: re-read the post properly. If the old one fits fine (and you've refitted the old one) then I have no idea 🙂
