Hi all, doing a scott endorphin project and got a pair of OLD xt hubs on mavic rims. Discs are seized on so am going to have to cut the bolts off and thought it could do some upgrades at the same time.
Has anyone ever ground the bolt tabs off the hub before cos the studs are going to be left over after cutting the rotor off? And as the inside of the hubs are showing wear on the ball bearing surface has anyone managed to regrind them to make them smooth or reamed them out to take a sealed bearing? As i didnt pay for the wheels im ok with getting the dremel on them or should i just leave them as shimano intended?
Whats the opinions?
Funnily enough I was just reading this- don't think it'll be any use, but you never know..
You may find that removing the bolt heads will releive the tension on them and allow the stubs to be removed with a decent pair of Molegrips, worth a try as i've removed quite a few this way.
I started down this road a few years ago.
Even dreamt of going on dragons den with my "invention", ๐
I'd even modelled up a hub in 3d, & the cone adaptors etc.
Then I bought some Pro2 wheels & my dreams of taking on the dragons faded.
Stud extractor tool? I wouldn't recommend trying to out think the big S. Machining out the bearing seats to a bigger size sounds like a good way to have an accident. Surely there is only enough material in the hub to support the original bearing races. Machining down will surely take hub too far to be workable.
wouldn't it be far easyer to buy newer hubs and just change them over?
