Ok, so before I spray some gt85 in there and rot a seal or something, can someone suggest a more sensible course of action?

pads out pump brakes to reveal pistons (not too much) and then use a thin item such as a match to dab some mineral oil (shimano brake fluid) on to the sides of the sticky piston and then push it back in. Repeat a few times and clean caliper to ensure no oil is left to contaminate pads.
Also look back through earlier postings as this problem has been brought up quite a few times. In one of them some type of red grease was being recommended.

it was my thread and red rubber grease sorted it out no probs, use the same technique as above. easy peasy
