I am struggling to fit an XT brake hose to a rear XT brake. I have carefully followed the instructions to fit the little copper end piece into the hose but the olive that sits around the hose has not been captured in place. I.e. it can move freely up and down the hose after inserting the barbed end piece.
The manual (bit of paper) implies this is wrong? Should the copper olive now be stuck 5mm from the end of the hose?
Is it trip to the bike shop time??
Any help much appreciated.

The olive will be loose until it get crimped in place when you fit the locking collar into the brake. Just make sure you are holding the hose tight into the caliper as you do up the collar to ensure a good seal.
