[#637893]

XT disc caliper (M765)

+

rear Avid 185mm adaptor

+

Avid 185mm rotor

= rotor doesn't quite contact the whole pad meaning a section at the top of the pads doesn't wear.

Any ideas why these parts wouldn't be compatible? Do I just need to swap to a Shimano IS to PM adaptor?

Ta!

M765 calipers are designed for a 180mm disc, so running it with a 185mm should cause the opposite problem. Not sure if swapping to a shimano mount would work because of this, maybe try a Hope for 183mm.

You could possibly take a round file to the holes (the non-threaded ones)in the adaptor and try and elongate the holes to drop the caliper down a smidge.
**I take no responsibility for any bike realted carnage that may or may not occur as a result of the above modification suggestion.
Your orphanage's should be safe though.**

You have matched the mount to the rotor so that's correct.

Check the basics. Have you shimmed under the calliper too much? Have you put the mount on the right way up?

Is it just the top 0.5mm section or a quarter of the pad that isn't in contact with the rotor?

If it's only a small amount at the top and you have loads of shims under the calliper then you could remove a shim to drop the calliper down.

If it's a quarter of the pad then you've got the wrong mount or you've put it on wrong.

What's the problem? Is it that you feel you're wasting pad by not having full contact or are the brakes not working correctly?
