Anyone done this, with a triple? If so, how does it work, and how does it look? Can't help but think it will look a bit weird!

It's preferable running a single ring on a triple chainset rather than on a double, that way you can put it in the middle ring position bang in the centre of the chain line rather than on the outer ring on a double which is further out.

No experience of those specific cranks but run one on a M770 chainset. Is that what you meant by your question?

Hope that helps

cheers for the reply. yes, it is a triple i am looking at due to the chain line issue you mention.

but, ive never seen a M781 crankset set up as single. so just wondered if anyone had any pics or if there were any issues?

I am running a black triple XT chainset as a single ring setup. I fitted a Hope bashguard in place of the big ring and 32t Works Components thick/thin ring in the middle with nothing in the granny.

I think it look the mut's nuts and didn't have any issues with chainline etc.

My bike is in the bike shop getting new forks fitted but can post a picture once it's back later in the week if someone else hasn't done it before.

cheers for that. is it the M781 cranks you have?

just the 781's look quite different in terms of shape from the older xt cranks, but i suspect its just the appearance that has changed, and fit and function has remained the same.

It's the 2012 M780 triple chainset.

Same as one of these,
