I have a set of elixirs on my enduro. Bled loads of times and they just don't seem that powerful. In morzine last year they felt crap ni comparison to mates bikes (saints and hopes)

So looking at some xt775's. How good are they? i've heard the lever throw is quite long (review on CRC).

I have both.

I've found you need to bleed xt775s first but once done they work faultlessly.

I dont find them as powerful as elixirs but they have been totally reliable.

Lever throw is fine you adjust bite position with the screw thing and you can have it short or long.

Great brakes

there are good and bad Elixirs, my 3's were shit, 5's that i run are good, however the CR mags or now they are called XX i had were awesomely powerful!

I have XT775s and found them more powerful and reliable than the Hope Mono 4s they replaced. My only experience of Avids was the Juicy 3.5 which were a pain, awkward to bleed and poor performance.
XT's are easy to bleed and once done don't need touching again. The lever feel takes a bit of getting used to as it is quite light but using one finger braking it all makes sense. I've found the rotors to be very good too and not had one warp yet, something that couldn't be said of the Hope Floating rotors.

Primarily i'm after something that's going to be good in les arcs. I'm going to beef up my enduro for more gravity days (lyriks, coil shock etc)

My elxirs were utter tripe in morzine last year and i want something with a bit more bite

(yes i have tried various pads and had them bled quite a few times)

Survived 20,000 metres of descent during the course of a week in Garda without fade, despite frequently turning the rotor purple and scorching the paint from rear of the kevlar pads!!! Bigger rotor now installed on the back. Perfect.

They work very well with those Superstar floating rotors but limited clearance on the alloy spider means they have to be centred with a little more care.

Was so impressed with XT775 that came on my FS that I bought a set of the same for my HT too.

Cheers

i'd love to whack those lovely saints on but they are pricey!

I just don't want to buy a set of xt's and realise they are the same or worse than my elixirs

I can't compare directly with Elixirs. I've no experience of 'em.
More than happy though with XT though in what seems like similar use to what you have planned. Just need an appropriate rotor size and the kevlar pads.

Lever throw on mine was minimal after I'd had a real go at bleeding them, couldn't believe how little movement was needed!
Better now I've fiddled with them some more.
Like them a LOT.

Saints are £125 an end on CRC, that's pretty cheap.

Or £330-ish on Merlin with all the rotors etc. If I was going to use them to their potential, I'd go that way.

that's for LH lever front brake/ RH leave rear brake

I suppose i could swap them round fairly easily?

I've got rotors already (unless i need shimano specific)

Shimano make the most fit and forget brakes in my experience, Avid probably the most unreliable

I've run Saints, XT's & Elixirs...For ultimate power and if you're not fussed about weight then Saints are the ones to go for. As mentioned, very bleed sensitive and Goodridge hoses sharpen the feel up no end aswell. Have been a Shimano brake fan for years, but now love my Elixirs. More fiddly to bleed, but once done properly they are amazing, soooo much power and lightweight to boot.

This. My XXs (which are not the same as Mag CRs starsh78) were total rubbish last year, plenty of power, but so unreliable and crap in use that it was fairly pointless!

Shimano just work, perfectly, every time. Swapping hoses couldn't be easier, buy the Saints.
