have ordered XT M8000 drive train, single ring at the front, 11-42 at rear, speced the mech, as SGS, will it be ok? with a single ring?

GS has a capacity of 39T, SGS 47T IIRC. Either will be fine, SGS will be better at taking up the slack as longer cage but will just be a bit closer to the ground if you worry about that kind of thing.
