[#1573400]

My thread appeared to get deleted - was that because I used a naughty word (that R1 use all the time) in the title?!

Anyway, my favourite tyres has been discontinued - Spesh Sauserwinds. Not only do they roll fast, they also grip and I like the 1.8" width. And they were cheap too. Any suggestions? Schwalbes all seem to wear too quickly and are comedy money and I now hate Contis. Small Block 8s have no mud grip. It's a tricky one! Any secret tyres I don't know about?!

Sauserwinds are very similar (visually) from Hutchinson Pythons*, or not too far off Maxxis High Roller XC 2.1"/1.95"

*I think I'm thinking of Pythons, I'm pretty sure Hutchinson do something visually similar anyhow

Could you try stocking up? How do you know they're being discontinued?

Hoping not to gain any weight having just spent loads shedding it! Sauserwinds are well under 500g each.

Looking at Nobby Nic Evos 1.8s - 470g and rated well but they might not last too long?

The high rollers aren't exactly heavy at 500g's each and they're cheap.

In fact I could sell you one with less than 100 miles on it for £15 😀

1.8 are very narrow, some people use them as a rear mud tyre, also very thin and even harder to turn tubeless if thats your thing compared to the bigger versions

maxxis monorails would get my vote, maybe the rendez, even lighter, or a larsen or ignitor combo

bonty tyres are decent too

I'm with you on this the Sauserwinds seem to be the perfect tyre and i've been looking around to.The Crossmarks look good my eldest races everything on them even '08 TransWales in all the rain without any trouble. Fortunately though Spesh are going to be bringing in the 2.0 version of the Sauserwind in July time so if you can hang on that may be the answer.

Chisel - that's really useful info - thanks!

Will see how I get on with the Nobby Nics.

I've tried loads of tyres and have a slightly "odd" spec - the Sauserwinds seem to roll SO well, hardly ever puncture (not going tubeless) and just cut into mud enough to be useable.

Tried Conti MK Protections - okayish in mud, horrible on any tarmac (yes I do ride a fair few miles on country lanes!) and I had one warp for no reason. In fact I might sell them.

The Fast Traks that came with the bike were okay on hardpack but dire in any wet conditions.

Everything else seems too nobbly or too slick and I hate square shouldered tyres - they let go too unpredictably.

Looking forward to the return of the Sauserwind!!

2.1 Crossmarks just be careful with the exception ones as the side walls are paper thin. I managed to kill mine on the second ride and am just under 9 stones.

Probably tempting fate but I don't seem to get sidewall issues. Anyway I'll see how this NN fares and report back.
