Budget?

Avid XX
Mono Mini Pro
Marta SL
XTR

My vote goes to the Avids, they're very good, but rather pricey. The others all have a large following, XTR are the heaviest and the cheapest.

My budget would allow XTR but have read reports that say they`re not that good!!

The Hope Races look pretty good. I don't rate the Marta SLs. My brother has had no end of problems with them but is now very happy with his XTs and Elixirs.

Martas of some description would be my choice.

There is nothing wrong with XTR, I have them on several bikes and they are faultless. I haven't tried the others so can't comment further.

Yep, 140 on the back for racing is generally adequate unless you're properly lardy!

Nowt wrong with XTR.

Elixir CRs maybe.

Got XTR's myself and they are good.
Seen some ads on classifieds for Mono Mini Pro's @£150 .

Run mono mini pros myself and they have been absolutely perfect. Unlike my carbon ultimate on my DH race bike which develop much spongeness if left for a couple of weeks 🙁

Juicy Ultimates can be had for pretty cheap at the moment (Fishers are doing them crazy cheap at the moment, so if you get trade prices from somewhere, they are sweetie money).

Love mine, heaps of power.

I always liked my Juicy Ultimates too, although they didn't look to be going cheap on Fishers website for me. If you can find them cheap, go nuts!

i've got XT servo wave levers with XTR calipers. I had martas previously but had no end of problems as above.

I am running 160 all round but will run 140 rear with my new wheels, finding it a bit snatchy on the rear (i'm nice and light too)

Not avids. Loads of my mates are having problems with them, and apparently they're not so easy to bleed (cant confirm that).

Hopes are great - and serviceable.

XTRs are also good, and I hardly needed to touch them once they were fitted. I had them on my other bike.

Whilst I've had at least 6 sets of Avids (Juicy Carbons, Ultimates, Elixirs and XXs) with not a peep out of any of them, and wouldn't touch Hope (or Magura) with a barge pole!

The XTR M960s I had were no end of trouble either, but I'd still generally recommend Shimano as very reliable.

160 front 140 rear set up here and I'm 15-stone in my kit.

Avids are easy to bleed, just a bit faffy. If that's not for you then don't consider them.

They're straightforward if you have the kit, and impossible without, that's it in a nutshell! Try and do it without the kit and you'll probably whinge that they're difficult!

I've got XTR on my Epic and have been impressed by them.
