PS3.

Bluray, I-Player, great games, reliable and only £250 quid.

If young and/or you want a "family" console for party games and the kind where you all play together, get a Wii.

If online play is really important, you don't mind paying £40/year for the privilege, and/or there's titles only available for it that you want to play, get a 360.

If you want blu-ray playback & iplayer, as well as decent games - PS3.

I'm looking at a PS3 too: Are they likely to come down in price after Christmas?

Sorry: Slight hijack.

A friend has both for his kids and the PS3 wins.

Plus he says all the XBOX does is cost him money.....

PS3 is much better IMHO I have both and online play is very important to me and it's free for the PS3. The bonus of the of good quality Blu-ray player is huge bonus.

Blimey you are out of touch.

Worth also mentioning is finding out what consoles your daughters friends have so she can play online with them.

doesn't she know what she wants ? pre-teens I'd stick with the Wii...if you go for xbox make sure it is the Elite (not Arcade) version as the hard-disk is pretty useful...if wants to play online then factor in £40 a year on xbox.

Wot drac says. Theyre all good really but it probably makes the biggest difference to find out what her mates have got. Thats if she wants to play them online.

Can you back this up? or are you just reading the same rumour that pops up every 6 months.

The reason they call it a 360 is because when you see one you turn 360 degrees and walk away.

If you turn 360 you'll walk right back into it.

FAIL!

LOL an Drac. I agree if she still young get the wii, But I think the PS3 is an awesome machine, Sony have just released a new film service currently 2000 films available now with 50 films per week being added to rent or buy. Not to bad price wise to rent its about the same as blockbuster £3.50 for 48 hours hire, To buy the film to keep its £11.99.

If the console is going to stay in the livingroom the the PS wins again, It'll blend in nicely with all your other AV. An Xbox SHOULD always be hidden in a bedroom out the way cause its bloody UGLY.

Oh and as far as I'm aware its still the only firmware updatable Blu-ray player on the market which makes it the most future proof Blu-ray player.

P.S If you dont have a HDTV dont buy a xbox or ps honestly the picture on a SD (standard def) TV is shit. I would go as far as saying the difference is comparable to a black and white picture and a colur picture! Gaming in HD is simply breathtaking.

I had this question t'other day - I plumped for a ps3.

Blu ray is fantastic, using the internet on it is better than wii & having access to my itunes library on my pc through a simple free bit of software & being able to put the sound through my surround sound set up I like, but my favourite - is being able to watch bbc iplayer on my sofa on my telly instead of hunched around my pc.

The only stupid thing as far as I can tell is the ps3 video store rentals only having 2.0 sound...

Currently using composite or component to conenct my xbox to my tv. Is it worth getting a HDMI lead? I've got a spare socket on the TV.

I'd find out what sort of games she likes before committing to a console.

The Wii has a good mix with the emphasis on fun & socialising but with some 'proper' games thrown in too.
It starts off cheaper than the PS3 & XBox, but am not sure it is in the long run, once you've bought another remote, another nun chuck, an extra steering wheel if you get MarioKart etc. a 'gun' for shoot 'em ups, a balance board.......and you will end up buying all these bits! Well, I have! Good fun though.

If I was choosing between the XBox and the PS3, I'd plump for PS3 purely for the Blu-Ray functionality.

I know it is, but to say "don't get one unless you have an HDTV" is a bit strong.

I have a PS3 (2nd-hand 60Gb model, so I could play PS1 & PS2 games, and use the extra USB sockets)

I had it hooked-up with composite/Scart to a 32" SD TV at my old house, and now run it with a 32" 1080 HD Toshiba Regza.

When setting up the PS3 it will detect screen resolution and adjust accordingly but the HD really makes the PS3 gorgeous - text is easier to read and the games look how they were meant to, and obviously takes advantage of the BluRay feature.

In terms of future subscriptions etc for the PS3 gaming network - they will be coming.

Not a reason to NOT get one at all though : )

Get the HDMI lead mate, it will change your gaming experience....In MY honest opinion.
