My X7shifter is not working properly, the larger thumb shifter is not returning back to position n I'm a bit scared to take it to bits, is there an easy fix to this??

I had the same thing, can be fiddly but you might be able to fix them. The key thing is not to try and do anything with the gear cable in them. If you have a look on the main body of the shifter you'll find a little rubber flap, if you lift this up you should be able to run the gear cable out backwards (you'll need to detach it from the derauliur first).

Once you've done this you can remove the four small allen screws and open the mechanism up. I didn't take it any further to bits but did loosen the central pivot just a tiny bit which is tightened against the exposed allen bolt. Other than that I cleaned up what I could and squirted in some lubricant which seemed to do the trick. A word of warning though, if any of the bits fall out or you lose where any of the springs are be prepared to buy a new one as I wouldn't fancy putting it back together

I've rebuilt an X9 shifter with the same problem... basically due to an increase in friction on the shifter pivot.

Wasn't particularly difficult, until putting the main spring back in. Spent a couple of hours on that!

No money = fix

Spares pennies = buy a new one!
