My carefully installed X type BB is showing signs of play after maybe just 300 miles of riding. About 150m of which has been on our very wet and muddy local stuff. Am I just to bite the bullet and accept this may be "normal" ? Seriously thinking that I just fit a Hope one next time.

RaceFace X-Type BB's are useless in my experience, mine lasted 3 months ish. Got a Hope one now which is much better and longer lasting.

The X-Type BB's seem to be very hit or miss, i have one that has been fine for years, others only seem to last weeks. there are some companies out there that can put new bearings in the bb shells but for the life of me i can't remember whoe does it just now.

Think it's betd who replace bearings

I'd never use another X-Type bb, god awful things.

Mine never lasted long enough to get play, they froze solid long before that due to terrible 'seals'. I could take them apart and clean them out and regrease them but they would only then last a few more rides before grinding to a halt again.

I get much better lifespans from Shimano ones and you can get XTR bb's on the Rose bikes site for £17/£18 which is far better long term value than a Hope in my opinion.

Race face do a tool for pulling the bearings out, I have one and a visit to the local bearing shop can secure some excellent quality 6805 bearings which are easily installed in the shell. It is the bearing that is problem not the shell.

Oddly enough the X replaced the cheap shimano one which had done probably 1800 miles before it croaked. 🙄
