I have a Manic dropper, came on a 2nd hand bike so I don't know if this is expected behaviour.

Sometimes when I go to raise it, I push the lever and nothing happens - I have to sit on briefly it to release it to pop back up.

Is that normal? Or maybe just needs a service.

I bought one second hand and it's getting a bit sticky now, so probably needs a service

For your issue though, have you tried winding a bit more cable tension on at the lever barrel adjuster?

Mine does that too.. but again, it came on a 2nd hand bike.  I also find that it very sensitive to seatpost clamp tightness.  Adjusting where my seat was clamped helped a little but I am now just used to it and so see the stiction free posts on my other bikes as a treat.

Haha, yeah that's true, it's nice to ride the other bike without the glitch.

I'll have a fettle with cable & clamp tightness, ta.

It could just be an age thing. Mine came on a new bike and in 20 months I’ve had zero issues with it (175mm length).

I took one off my second hand bike doing exactly the same as yours OP, i unwound the collar and lubed it which helped it for a ride or two and then it was back to being sticky. I had a spare old one up v1 in the shed so I replaced it, when I did the outer was pretty knackered which can’t have been helping. Reckon mine needed a service though - not sure how easy it is compared to a one up which are a piece of cake. Hopefully similar.
