Not been out for a week or two, those brambles are vicious. Finished work at mid day even though I had stuff to do - it can wait. Some pics from when I wasn't suffering death by a thousand cuts. Had a cracking race with a herd of 'teenage' red stags with some nice antlers forming for half a mile or so that I spooked (wasn't distressing them, I was on a farm track and they were in a field a couple of hundred yards away). Having a mostly alcohol free week before Ynot festival next Thursday

Today’s ride was at Tewantin while Reeksy2 was off on his ‘new’ rig with his coaching crew. Perfect conditions and lots of gold from Strava.
Hah. That title reminded me of last weeks ride in South Wales. Path marked on the GPS. Signpost suggesting it was real. No actual path to speak of trying to ride it. Having an early morning dither about riding this weekend. Hand/finger still very sore after slapping the ground inappropriately last weekend. Probably should get it checked out. Probably won't 😉
40km from home on the eeb yesterday. Dusty everywhere and the streams/rivers are barely running.
Was out last night up pitfichie for a spin. Even though we are over in Aberdeenshire the smoke coming from the fires in cairgorms is scary. Thoughts to everyone on the front line trying to help get it under control.
Turned a usual Friday morning gravel club coffee ride into a 100 mile mini-epic, including but not limited to: losing all my energy; running out of water - thankfully the bloke at the shut pub turned out to be the landlord and topped my bottles up!; somehow destroying my rear brake pad spring, part if which welded itself onto the disc on a 10%+ road descent. Jolly good fun all in all, even with a spot of sunburn 😂
Was delighted to be able to get a ride in before the rain arrived. My local trails on Cavehill are riding sooooo well. This really feels like the golden era of mountain biking. The trails and bikes have never been better, and im blessed to have enough health to enjoy them.
But to comment on the thread title, I’ve never seen trails as overgrown as this year. Probably im just forgetting other years, but the overgrowth seems to be on another level this year.
Breezy ride to Spofforth castle
Steeper than it looks. Natch 😉 Proper dusty in the Yat today. Rode in from home and through some careful battery management (including riding a quite heavy eBike uphill with the motor off) ended up at 82km/1600m of climbing and 25% of the battery left. These things are magic! My riding bud H enjoying one of the descents.
Was in the mood for a big ride today. 80km and 1200m climbing on the hardtail. At the halfway point the BB packed up and was making some horrendous noises so I stuck my AirPods in and all was good.
Treated myself to an ice cream when I got back to town and then a beer when I was near home. E-bike ride tomorrow to stretch the legs.

Rode from Mill Hill to Whiteways along the SDW

The smoke even made it's way into Aberdeen city centre on Friday. I was out doing some gardening after work and it was quite surreal.
I also read traces of ash from the fires have been detected on platforms in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
A mate of mine is moving to South Africa and he's 
shipping a couple of yamaha ebikes and he asked me to do him a favor and run the battery's down for him so me and my eldest took them down to Rotorua to take them round the forest loop . His first time on an ebike and im not sure what his reaction will be next time he heads out on his own bike 😉 I'm not keen on an ebike just yet but they are great fun and allowed me and the boy to ride a bigger and lumpier route than we normally would .

First puddles I’ve seen on the trails for ages. Rode one of the main trails on Cavehill - the Quarry trail. My goodness. At times, I couldn’t even see the trail at all. I guess this is the downside to summer. Thankfully the trails on the open hillside were clearer!
Snuck out for an hour this evening, as a head clearer from working all weekend. Didn't see a single soul!
Needed a ride yesterday after overdoing it at a family BBQ on Saturday 😋
