Managed a nice local spin with my son - as above, getting him used to single track at the moment!  He loves it so far! IMG_4603.jpeg

Back in Bavaria, baby......!

Started the day with my first fry up in ages (not a fan of German sausages as they're far too finely ground up, but Lidl had some Italian ones and they're similar in style to a British banger)

@Tracey

When you're near Finale have a look at Mont Alpet and Viola bike parks. About an hour or so from Finale.

Very underrated.

he loved it til we hit some overgrown nettles!

Character building. Tell him to man up and embrace the tingle 😉

The promise of ice cream at the end was enough to keep him going 🙂

Thumbs up button isn't working for me, but loving all the posts and photos - it's amazing the difference an extended period of decent weather makes (sorry @reeksy).

Too much family stuff meant the only other weekend ride I managed was Sunday evening, another e-blast on Colsnaur. Incredibly dry conditions made for an easier ascent and a rapid descent. Extended out to 32km/1,050m making the most of the assistance (not taking it easy!) and rinsed the battery down to 22% remaining.

I had a great long weekend with 3 mates on the inaugural Bicycle Walking Club rough stuff weekender. A very simple premise: singlespeed mtb touring with the emphasis firmly on fun. I’d plotted a route around Wenlock edge and long Mynd with two nights camping. The great thing about singlespeeding it was that everyone was going to be walking at some point which meant we stuck together and moaned and laughed at the same times. I was on my 853 inbred and the only one with (tired) suspension. We were all on similar size gears between 50-55”.

There were a few times where the routing was sub-optimal in its clarity on the ground, but mirth was high. Bonus of spdandals meant that adding rivers to check on viability for passage was no issue.
The route worked out around 50/50 for on/off road and generally the off road parts were really enjoyable.

Once we had got up on top of Wenlock Edge it was agreed it was very much worth the push up

There were quite a few windblown trees along the top and the scents of wild garlic in bloom and the bluebells was immense

After a much-needed chippy lunch in Church Stretton we were back up onto the Long Mynd and I’ll be honest it was a tough push in places but followed by a lovely run along the Port Way and then down into Bridges for our second night camp

Sundays route was shortened from 20 miles to 14 by general consensus so we headed up into the Stiperstones through the aroma of coconut from the flowering gorse.

After a lovely tea, cake and ice cream at The Bog visitor centre we were then back up onto the Mynd and had another great rolling ride before dropping down into Carding Mill valley and finally Church Stretton again for ice cream and wind down before we went our separate ways.

Total distance over the three days was around 57 miles. Average speed was probably 7mph. It was a lot of fun.

Final day in Finale, I was originally flying home at 22.00 tomorrow but after finishing the job I was here for 24 hours early, so getting to ride Saturday, I changed my flight to midday tomorrow, so a leisurely return home, rather than packing up in a car park and travelling home after a full days riding and getting home in the early hours.

3 days, 11 shuttles, approximately 38,000ft of descending, bike was faultless, the guys at Finale Express are awesome, but I’m cooked!

Yeah I've been absolutely loving it, amazing what a mood booster this good weather is, I've really noticed it this year. Don't always like riding in the rain and mud so been making the most of it and getting out on the bike as much as possible, so good for my mental health which has been a bit shaky the past couple of years. Bikes are awesome.

Been out for most of the day hitting the EDR trails from this weekends race. 43 miles and over 2000m of descent. Almost a perfect day on the trails and great guiding from Mario at Trails Adventure.

Tea shower and an early night ready for tomorrow's adventures

I've been a bit quiet riding-wise the past two weekends as I've been out walking rather than riding. One was a bivvy trip with my oldest pal from school and last weekend it was wedding anniversary week away in (gasp!) Lancashire. Which was actually really good.

Anyway, out on the hardtail tonight for a rip around some classic XC trails to the NE of Leeds. This is probably one of the prettiest rides I know, when the weather is like this in the spring time.

Just *slightly* past it's best with some of the bluebells and wild garlic stating to go to seed. The hawthorn blossom was still stunning though, and I had a bit of a bonus explore down to the Wharfe and had a cheeky skinny dip.

Hardtail running really well, it's got gears back on it now in anticipation of some bivvy adventures ahead. Also first rode out for the syntace wheels off of the PSAs. Very impressed - very direct/stiff - feel like they transfer power very well.

Not quite the weekend, but last night I went out for my second ride on Britney. Got a PB on one of my local trails without even trying. Such a fast, poppy, flowing bike. I think we're going to have fun together.
