Had been intending to get out for a long 5-6 hour ride today, but other stuff got in the way. Managed to nip up to Stainburn for a couple of hours though.
Borrowed a 27.5 rear wheel to experiment with a mullet set-up on my Bird AM ... Jury's still out overall! I felt techy climbs were better (slightly less inertia powering up over janky sections). Clearance below/behind my arse was massive! Unsure whether it felt any better in corners/berms ...
Decent forecast for Friday so got up early and cycled into school - chilly but bright, and then (obviously) biked home too (warm). Wind of course changed around so it was headwind (breeze) both ways but apart from that all good. The commute is a bit too much to do every day (about 25km each way) but always a good feeling when I do.
My 12-year bike dog and closest companion passed away this week. So every ride is a bitter sweet affair. With rain due later today, I made the rare decision to get out for a pre-breakfast ride. The trails are in stunning condition!
Tired laps at a localish spot yesterday. Fast and loose - could do with a bit of rain to dampen the dust down.
I was tired due to spending all last week walking the west highland way. Decided on a relatively early finish then went for a swim in the wharfe and a sunbathe
Local spin, was going to go for a longer ride but felt tired. Lovely out though and the bluebells are looking good.
Forecast rain for the next week or so, felt rude not to make the most of it.
Bit of digging up at Pitfichie this morning getting ready for the next round of SES up there followed by a bit of testing the hard work.
Dare I be the one to say that the trails could do with a bit of rain as really loose and dusty today.😂
@ampthill - we ride the Gap ever year between Christmas and new Year and that chute gets less and less rideable every year. I remember nearly getting swept away in the stream at the bottom after weeks of rain a couple of years ago!
Local ride for us yesterday. Rode some trails on the other side of the hill which have been put back in after extensive forestry. Everything was running really well after some rain Friday. Didn't take any pics but it all looks like this (from Weds night ride)
Garlic flowers and bluebells. Fab time of year to ride. Still knocked out over 800m of climbing. It's not a big hill but there are lots of trails.
Reason we stayed local was for our annual assault on some questionable ales at the Ross Beer Festival. Excellent as always, decent bands, really busy, 40+ beers to choose from. I drank quite a few before being whisked home by my better half. I'd have stayed for some more but:
n
it got very soggy from 5pm onwards. My head is thanking the weather this morning:)
Took Reeksy1 to do dh laps on a local track with his mate. It’s normally very quiet but loads of people were out as well as the normal 4x4 and moto riders.
While the boys got shuttled by his mates mum I did my own for a bit of fitness. It’s a 1km road climb so enough without being a killer. Did 5 of those then a bit of sketchy moto tracks. Photos are not uploading as they’re too big apparently 🤷🏽♂️
Snuck out after the kids were in bed for an hour sessioning the local fun stuff last night. Properly sketchy dusty fun, took me a couple of laps to figure out where the grip was but when I did it was ace fun.
They're also reforesting where a bunch of diseased trees were felled.
Couldn't be arsed with train journeys today so just went to my local woods. Still managed 25 miles in total.
I've tried 3 times to sort the duplicate images, you'll just have to live with it, sorry.
Carron Valley with my nephew. Great ride. Shitty new jumps everywhere trails.
“Raced” the southern enduro at QECP today. My goal was to try and not finish last in my category. Crashed twice on stage 3 which wasn’t ideal but managed to finish 2nd to last so I’m quite happy with that 😀
TBF whatever the results, it’s a good day out on the bike as it’s quite good fun pushing yourself to ride faster than you’re actually comfortable with.
Went for a 40km loop from home with a killer climb and a sketchy wet clay log shute descent. Beats work.
Friday evening ride. Only remembered to take one pic. Ride with my regular riding buddy, and his friend with his trail dogs. Perfect evening!
Sunday evening ride on my (nearest decent) local MTB trails: climbing quarry near Bridge of Allan:
Trails has been getting LOOSE during the week but overnight rain Sat-Sun calmed things down. A bit splashing and slippy in the occasional place but generally prime conditions 😀
Over in Tadcaster this morning, cheering Mrs HTO doing a Sprint Tri ...
Ant & Dec were spectating from a patriotic looking shop window ...
Brought the Moxie in the car, and took the scenic route home.
30 mins uphill from our front door. Nice to explore some 'dead end' lanes and tracks.
Nice to see mrs_oab on two wheels out after a near full winter of illness.
Was working on Monday, so just some local trails on Barr Hill for me. However, these were running really well, with added BLEWBS.
3 day weekends should be the norm!
Why stop there!
I'm on two 3-day weekends on the trot, with next weekend being a 4-day 😎
