The French are all off work today, (I work for a French company) so I took the day off and started my summer hols a day early. Lovely weather, and the trails in Tollymore were epic, as always.

Golden hour Pitmedden Pik'n'Mix. Not the most scenic part of the forest, but every trail is a minor masterpiece.

Drier than Melania on date night.

I grew up in Keswick but my word the Howgills are magnificent. Just seeing them in the distance…

Ace solo train assisted ride last night. One of my favourite trail rides anywhere, with the added bonus that I can do it right from the door no driving involved

Haven't felt very fit recently but hints of some form returning which was nice too

PXL_20250816_005852137.jpg PXL_20250816_024739838.jpg  Thought spring had arrived in NZ this week but it was pretty cold in Rotorua today. Had a good day using the shuttles to give  my youngest a bit more of an adventure but also  try and keep it interesting for my eldest.

I took my daughter and nephew to Llandegla yesterday. Eeb and tow rope for the nephew meant we could session the blacks, the B Line especially proved to be very popular 🙂

Fun 40km on the eeb. Shame about the motor making funny noises and realising it will need to go for warranty after only 5 rides.

Chasing the sunset last night. Finished the ride in complete darkness. Solo ride, so all the forest monsters were chasing me, which added to the excitement.

Toad/frog tested my brakes right at the end, then demanded a photo before hopping off into the dark.

Put the old Solarismax back together for Reeksy1 to use as a gravel HT. Couldn't resist a shakedown.

(Out of shot in the first photo was some reprobate screaming blue murder at me because I'd just ridden through his illegal camp site and scared the shit out of his horrible pig dog).

Another Sunny day on the downs. IoW visible from the dyke. Bottoms of climbs are quite loose cos of all the gravel wash from the rain a couple of weeks ago. Not much in the way of cycling pics. 20250817_095452.jpg20250817_095158.jpg

Actually went out on my mountain bike yesterday too. Local very flat doorstep ride, no hills. Enjoyed it, but wouldn't if I did it too frequently.

I should have taken some photos of the trails as it's both lush and marble-y! After 12 weeks riding nothing, today was  (easy) single track for nearly 4 hours. It felt like coming home. I have so missed this 🙂 Physio tomorrow, so going to have to lie when discussing our agreed "Rehab Protocol" which explicitly denied any riding MTBs for at least 4 more weeks 🙂

Hot, sweaty laps this evening.

But, enough about your mum, here's some pics from my ride at Aberfoyle.

Hot and sunny - I don't cope well with 25degC! Colsnaur in the Ochils last night. Cooked myself on the climb, cooked the brakes on the descent 😀

Definite improvement with higher-rise bars (20mm previous, now 38mm) but curious to try even higher...

Stars aligned, all of us off work, working bikes, uninjured, no family duties, and the perfect weather - lets have a trip to Wales!

Got most of the way there... and then took ride back in Thunderbird 4 (with a few hours hanging round a Toby Carvery car park in the middle)

image.png

Felt miserable to have got so close to a rare ride out with some mates so we rode to the pub instead:

Any bike ride is better than no bike ride, at least!

Just a local pootle for us with our eldest daughter.

Youngest daughter came back from NZ for a few weeks early Sunday morning so had a trip to the airport to fit in

Friday was the last day of what's been my bucket list holiday for the past 20 years or so.

Scorching temperatures, even on the top of the mountains, and miles upon miles of gorgeous singletrack descents. It was simple awesome thanks to Rab, our guide, The White Room MTB who hosted us and the Singletrackworld hive who originally suggested going with that company.

@Beagleboy, which trip did you do with Whiteroom? Thinking about one of theirs for next year, no less-so after seeing your pics. Looks a bit good.

It was the Classic Singletrack holiday that we booked. Can't recommend it enough. The guides, food, accommodation, everything was excellent.

Cheers! Got my own bucket list holiday with Basque MTB next month. Will give White Room some thought for next year.
