Well, not entirely, or not yet.
Just under 2 hours on the local trails today. Most of the patches of death-ice have disappeared, the rest of the trails were a mix of 'just starting to turn to mud' again' and 'still frozen, might be grippy, might be sketchy, take it easy'!
Beautiful day though!
After? We've another 30cm of snow forecast for tomorrow (around a foot for those stuck in the last century).
We had our first day on the trails in Rotoura. I can't describe just how good these trails and the infrastructure are.
Had an awesome day out. 25 miles, 1300 of descent and temp in the mid 30°
Back out today to do some more.
Been away all week. Im so happy to have managed a ride this morning in lovely, crisp, hard conditions. Before it all turns to mush tonight.
Was supposed to ride our local DH track and chaperone Reeksy2 as it’s his second visit… but I forgot my shoes and ended up on driving and camera duties instead.
Weather looks minging Sunday, so usual weekend bimble moved to Saturday. Great little ride. Cold, but bright, weather. trails still (mostly) frozen and firm. Bumped into a couple of mates (one riding, one digging) for a natter. Didn't ride as far or as fast as I planned, but that's not really what it's all about...
Spent the day in Whakarewarewa Forest. It was even hotter than yesterday.
Quite a bit of climbing to get to some of the remote areas but well worth it. The trails are awesome and the scenery stunning.
Plan was to ride with friends coming up from Porlock. Only we get out dates wrong and they are coming next week 😉 No matter, had a fun ride in GSD (Greasy Snot Death) conditions on our local trails. All under chilly but cloudless blue skies. I'll take that in January. Definitely back to Hardtail Season tho after a few rides on the FS.
Mate just fitted forks to his Trek Fatbike and enjoyed more grip than the rest of us.
Supposed to be an easy spin but ended up seeing how far I could get up the Glen Lednock climb, just for a little taste of snowy epicness.
Ice tyres on a gravel bike is a potent mix!
Solo ride messing about on the clubhouse trails at Swinley plus some cheeky loam. Conditions were prime. Also got the chance to try out my Xmas pressie from the kids.
I'm not in the slightest jealous of @Tracey or @Reeksy.
Nope. Not one bit. 😩
No riding for me this weekend unfortunately. Been feeling shite all week with some sort of lurgy. Nice walk yesterday in bluebird skies with the family. Very icy/slippy underfoot so in the end glad I wasn't on the bike.
Absolutely minging weather today so I've had an epic trip the tip then housework🤟
Weather looks a bit better, and mild tomorrow so I'll probably go out on the road bike for a bit at lunchtime instead. Trials are going to be filthy.
Today was absolutely lethal. A film of melt water on top of the ice made things almost unridable even on the fat bike.
It was good to get home and unclench every muscle and sphincter!
Half ice rink and half bog. Must be one of the slowest rides I’ve ever been on but still enjoyed it, and my lad loved sliding about in too!
Guaranteed that's the same kind of people that leave disposable BBQs next to bins in the summer 😠

No biking for me this weekend. The lovely fresh snow I was out in last week turned to bulletproof ice and it's been pissing down and strong winds all day today.
My younger son and I had a lovely road ride on Saturday, just 30 or so miles slip and tumble free, 2 cups of coffee, brownie, flapjack and stroopwaffels to replace the calories expended staying warm 😉. We won't mention the "physics don't apply to me drivers" or those with the observation skills of a bowl of minestrone (other soup is available).
The older one cycled a mile and a half to work, came off on the way and somehow bent a crank while leaving the rest of the bike almost completely unscathed.
How he's managed that I have no idea!
I know the extractor itself isn't dead straight. I reckon it's off a good few at the pedal spindle when I put a proper square up against it. I look forward to the appraisal of the paving slabs.
Excellent ride on Saturday morning, clear blue sky and sunshine, but still cold enough to freeze all the puddles.
