Hi all,
Sorry to post a road bike question / problem, but I think I have messed up on a training bike for the winter!
I have just purchased a Specialized Tricross from fleebay. It was listed as a 52cm frame, but I think it was measured wrong and is actually a 56cm frame! I'm 5'6", so I think a 52cm frame is about right for me. My Orange Five is a 16" and feels perfect. There is no way to send this back either, as I inspected it and (foolishly) took it thinking it would be okay (it was a bargain though).
Questions:
1. On a Tricross, is the frame size measured from middle of BB to mid of top tube or top of where seat post goes in? The seatpost sticks up by about 5cm.
2. Is it worth trying to make it fit by getting a shorter stem (potentially even shorter crank arms). I tried it out last night with seat raised about 8cm which felt okay on the legs, but it felt a little long to reach the bars.
3. Should I just re-list it on fleebay.
Please help a distressed MTBer!
Road bikes/Cross bikes used to be measured c-c but now tend to be c-t with newer type geo.
Have you contacted the seller?
I think Specialized sizes are centre bb to top of seat tube.
At 5'6" I would imagine either a 52 or 54cm would be suitable.

I had a tricross that was only slightly too big and off road it was a nightmare - I'd bite the bullet and move it on.
yeah re sell it.... ๐
52 would be right for you
On my Langster the size is the virtual seat tube, ie the distance from BB centre to where the centreline of the top tube would meet the seat tube if the top tube were horizontal.
Stop fretting about the seat tube, its not that important. Work out if the reach to the bars and the height of the bars will be ok for you.
Sounds like you need to resell it - think they sell pretty well though (especially at this time of year) so you should be fine. What model year is though (there's a recall on for the current year)?
What's the horizontal toptube length (measured from centre of headtube to seatpost parallel to the floor)? If it's over 53cm then it's probably a bit too big for you, and best to advertise it on ebay or the classifieds on here.
Try a shorter stem, play with it for a few days and see how you get on.
If not, resell, there are plenty of those about, or put a swap up on a road forum 'my 56 for your 52' jobby.
Spesh have weird compact geometry too so their 56 might actually measure (in the normal sense) like a 52 hence the confusion.
