Devisive isn’t it.   So imagine buying a red Yeti, a brown Bianchi, or a purple Trek.

Some bikes are just synonymous with their colour, and it feels just wrong.  I say this after looking longingly at Cervelo Caledonia-5 in Red.  Red I ask you, who’d buy a Cervelo in anything other than black!

See, I think a Cervelo should be red.

When I bought my new shape Trailstar it had to be in the original blue and red colours, it looked cool in black, but also not right.

At least if it was matte black, it would be harder to see how ugly it is.

I was with you up until Trek.

What colour is a Trek supposed to be as i've never associated them with anything?

Slightly off topic but 2021 seems to be a crap year for bike paint jobs-pretty much all I've seen so far are terrible.

I'm not getting it. Is Trek supposed to be red, or is that Specialized?

But painting a Titanium frame is just wrong.

I can only think of Yeti with a strong signature colour scheme. I can't think of any other MTB that has to be a certain shade.

Don't know/care about road bikes.

I remember when Specialized Sworks use to be red, similar to Trek with red bikes for male racers and pale/light blue for female racers. Similar to Cannondale either being blue or red.

The manufacturer sells the bike in a certain colour, and you want it, but you don't buy it because it's not the "brand" colour?

I've sold both Trek and SBC and they've both always done loads of colours.

Worth repeating!

The best looking Trek bikes were the purple ones from a couple of years back. I had the Stache and it looked lovely. They usually look utterly bland to me.

I have three Cotics. Only one is orange. Some days this makes me slightly sad.

Intense & red? Admittedly they’ve diversified a bit now.

Colours of certain makes/models of mountain bike that stick in my mind:

Singular Swift in pale blue/purple

Yeti turquoise with yellow accents

Cotic Soul in orange

Orange 5 in orange

On-one Pompino in Blue (bathroom blue?)

On-one Inbred in white

Binachi in celeste

Cervelo in red

Islabike's in metallic red with silver writing

Stooge in turquoise

As for colours recent colours of bike,
I'm generally a fan of strong solid colours for frames but I'm loving the colour fades that seem popular. Not sure they will age well though.

Scott 'race' bike need to be black with yellow and white accents, IMO obviously.

I'm glad that men's bikes are finally getting more colours like the women's bikes instead of boring black.

I actively would NOT buy a turquoise/celeste bike, yeti or bianchi

Personal opinion, I don’t like white or red frames and wouldn’t buy one in either colour. Just don’t like red as a colour in general and white always seems like absolutely no effort or thought has gone in to it.

No such thing as the wrong colour if it's a bike.

But I guess if your a factory team issue kit kinda guy then it should match for that all important fraud factor 🙂

I've owned two oranges, neither has been orange, this bothers me. The black and gold one at least looks nice but the blue one? Who the hell owns a blue orange?

Also owned a Cotic Soul that wasn't black and white.

I have a turquoise Stooge and a mint green (close to turquoise) Trek Crockett and really like both. I've also had a red Orange, black (white decal) Cotic Soul and orange Cotic Soul.

🤷‍♂️

I can't think to put any colour with Trek.

I put Specialized with red purely because of Jason McCoy.

GTs should be polished alloy too.

Litevilles should be Black or raw aluminium. You can spec them in any colour you want, but I reckon less than 5% are anything other than black or raw, and probably 70 % of those are Black. Probably a higher percentage than turquoise Yetis!

Orbeas should be orange, Cervelos, Willier and Pinarellos should be red.

The worst thing about bike colours is when different spec bikes, of the same model, are different colours - and the spec you want is the most minging colour of them all.

GT Zaskar: blue and yellow is faster, FACT.

How about Ti bikes in... matte black?

Orbeas should be orange,

I thought they could be any colour as long as it's not the same as another Orbea.

I can’t think to put any colour with Trek.

They seem to have arrived at that boring red with white logos as their flagship colour.

Correct. Want a Sprit fork for your Alma? Sure. But we'll only offer it in the three top spec colourways and all the custom colours will be a different shade to stock.

Nothing wrong with a purple Trek, that session 9.8 from a few years ago with blue decals was the best looking Trek ever.
The blueberry carbon Mega was simply stunning, every Mega since has had garbage colours in comparison.
