Just back in from a night ride first visit to Gisburn forest for 5 years
and what a transformation Well done all you trailbuilders there .
We had a great time followed by beer and cake in the Pub .
The people to thank are Martin the FC Head Forester, who started it all off, got the funding and turns up with big machines and chainsaws to nearly all digs.
Stumpyjon off here has made it a personal project and has been one of the volunteers who got so deeply involved he now leads many digs and the occasional mid week digs.
Also Terry who was there right from the start and hasn't missed many digs since (he's mostly on bikemagic). There are also one or two others who are reasonably regular, post on here sometimes, but I can't recall their usernames. Scott with the little Terrier dog is one.
It's all down to Martin Colledge the FC guy tho, I believe he stuck his neck out quite a bit internally with FC to get it all off the ground. Martin also built alot of the early stuff many years ago, the best bits are still in the current new loop.
Is this worth a visit? I've never been and just found out it's only 50mls away from me?
I would say yes certainly worth a visit if your that close .
I will be returning to have a look around in the daytime sometime soon.
Loddrik, yes I think so, it's not a very long trail, but it's a figure of 8 design, so can be ridden a few times or cut short the 2nd time round. There's also forest roads to make it a bit longer if you want and have a map.
Trout, I wasn't the person you met at Kildwick, but if you are on the canal regularly I'm about to start canal commuting again Bingley to/from Skipton spring/summer/autumn. short blond hair (no helmet), back pack, black Rock Lobster frame with black rigid forks (Nuke Proof carbon or Salsa with trad mudguards), stop me if you see me.
OOps
B.A.Nana OOps then the guy I met whilst out with the dog the other morning at 0600 must have thought he had met a raving looney ๐ณ
I knew you commuted that way somtimes will say Hi if I see you
I am a trampy looking guy with a black and white parsons russell terrier
and riding a blue Ragley MMMbop badly around 0600 to 0800 in the mornings
Trout, we certainly would not meet at 6am in Kildwick, I'm def not an early morning person, I wish I was, but I'm not, I love my bed too much. I'm more likely to drive to Skipton early in the morning and cycle home. I work flexi time, so cycle to/from work a few times a week, but in reasonable hours (9am-8pm). Clocks go forward this weekend, so I should be back on the canal until Sept/Oct, with occasional loss of enthusiasm dictated by the weather. Anyway, it's always nice to meet people off here, I'll keep an eye out for you and the mutt.
