With recent rides in the Peaks, the Dyfi looming and my dislike to front mechs,
I'm wanting to stick with 1x9 but struggling on those bigger climbs,
Would switching to a 30T be of much use?
Money is tight so buying one chainring would be more favourable than having to buy a the long caged rear mech I'd need to make things a little easier.
you don't say what rear cassette you have if you have a 32t then its the same as going up to a 34t and if you have a 34 its the same basically the same as going up to a 36t
yes it will help but not loads

Keep repeating to yourself "loads of people ride the Dyfi on 34:16"
Then go and stand in a corner and think about what you've said. 😉
I went from 34 to 30 and it made a big difference
I believe I'm running 11-32t

I'll freely admit I'm a big Jessie,

Lets be fair though, I could be one of the many people who will be riding the comfort of 3x9 but I'm working to stick with 1x9. 🙂
£19 , grab yourself a 12-36 cassette

OP: it makes 1.5 gears difference so your new 2 on the back will feel like somewhere between your old 1 and your old 2. Need to lose 3-4 teeth off the front to make a whole gear difference at the back
