a bit of chalk to go with the cheese of the best item thread.

mine, the stupid 2 x 10 set up on my parkwood. always in the wrong gear.
what is so wrong with 22/32/42 with a 12/36 cassette. proper good gearing.

Specialized Wedgie saddlebag. Utter bobbins. Zips failed after three wet rides on the lanes and grrravel. Shamefully awful.

Found a twenty year old Karrimor Elite saddlebag in one of my bits boxes, had forgotten all about it. Fitted it. Works like a dream.

Offset shock bushings. I was sceptical of brass bushings and it seems I was right, they didn't last long.

Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s – deplorably weak. About as much use as tits on a fish.

On my CX'er, when I bought it, it had some rather suspect SRAM disc brakes on it. By all accounts I was supposed to die in a ball of fury and flames should I ever have the audacity of pulling a leaver. SRAM recalled them, well recalled the bike actually but I refused the cable replacements and waited for the replacement Hydros. They duly arrived, got fitted and have honestly been as good as the original supplied brakes.

So I'm not really saying the brakes are the worst, nope what im saying is the 4.5 months it took SRAM to sort out the replacements and the 7 weeks the bike was in Giant whilst being told the brakes were on their way.

It's the lost time on the bike I think is the worst thing I've "bought" in 2014.

😕

The mavic tyres that came with my mavic roadie wheels. Can't remember the name of them but punctured on the first outing by riding over a bit of gravel. Ultra light but piss thin.

@Drac I'm sure plenty of us have built dodgy parts-bin specials, but for a bike company to actually try to sell them is pretty ballsy.

Zee clutch mech was almost going in the best item thread until they started failing on me and many of my mates. Clutches going kaput, mechs twisting and smashing at the slightest thought of a twig or grass going through the chain or ;ilghtest brush with the ground. CRC have been replacing them at a rapid rate without asking questions, they obviously know something's wrong with shimano sending out warranty replacements double quick time.

I am dead clever so I've not bought anything crap. But my Pikes are underwhelming, TBH I find it confusing that anyone can rave about them, they're adequate but that's all. Big step back in performance from my coil lyriks, but I'm a weight weenie so I'm conflicted.

It's not really fair to tar all Offset shock bushings with the same brush as the cheep brass ones, my Ti ones are now on their second bike and still going strong.

I discovered that as a nipper fitting satellite dishes. I've continued to always have a roll ever since, brilliant stuff with a multitude of uses!

An inner tube from decathalon that no matter what pump I tried would not inflate

My Poundland mudguards , front is going strong but rear snapped off after a week while adjusting the seatpost. Although quite surprised it lasted as long as it did considering the hard plastic it was made of. Who would have though you couldn't buy quality bike kit for a quid.

Spot on Northwind, Pikes are good but the ones I've ridden haven't felt any different to my nicely set up Revs... coil spring Lyriks though? Now we're talking, I hope Rockshox release them in 27.5 eventually.

The inner tube on my road bike. Not sure what brand or where it came from but it doesn't have any screw thread on the valve so all my pumps won't grip/hold in place when I pump it up. Involved much swearing and comedy faffing when installing it one cold and frosty morning by the road side.

If I ever find the person who designed it I'll kick them right in the crotch while singing there favourite song out of key the blooming c0ck bag.

Boardman CX bike.

Heavy, dead feeling, dull handling and the paint was defective.

Worst of both worlds.

Crossmax enduro wheelset for me, well the rear wheel anyway. Not sure what I was thinking, 20 spokes and a stupid narrow rim, was never going to last. Snapped several spokes and occasionally they just eject from the hub end and rattle about, ideal. I've given up on the rear and am currently having a front rim built up on my old crossmax sx rear hub, hopefully that fairs better.

Slightly OT - but I wonder if bondage tape is any good as a frame wrap...

@gofasterstripes,we have some of that bondage tape in the big pink "fun box" that lives under the bed. Will have to try that meeself, could be awkward being caught leaving Ann Summers when getting more tape, crikers!, whoever thought they would sell bike stuff. Those furry handcuffs nifty for popping to the shops (won't scratch your paint!),when you lock the bike. Thinking outside the big pink box as it happens. 🙂

User error. I have Michelin tubes on my roadie which have no thread on the valve, because they're much nicer. Don't wear out the rubber on my track pump, and haven't found any problem getting a pump to work with them.

Dunno about that, I've had a couple that just wouldn't work with my (then) track pump despite everything else working fine.

I am completely underwhelmed with my new exposure revo, you have to be doing over 15/16kmh to get full power, mountain biking in winter tends to be spent at lower speeds.

Really disappointed that so many people raved about them, I guess it's one of those products that people don't want to admit to themselves that they spent so much money on something that doesn't deliver.

The £1.99 road inner tubes from On-One. Three punctured in one ride (the two that were in the bike when I set off, and one of the spares that I put in to replace one of the punctured ones). Two more punctured (on two other bikes) when fitted into brand new tyres and not even ridden. Fitted, pumped up, bike hung up in the garage and they were flat by the morning. A work colleague had similar problems with these tubes too. I CBA sending them back for the money involved but also can't trust them not to leave me stranded somewhere. So they'll just get cut up and used for other stuff.

+1. The worst tyres I have ever used. I'm amazed that Schwalbe have the cheek to sell them.

An experimentation with most of the Specialized road saddle range ravaged my arse. I'm sure they are good saddles, just not for me.

My formula T1 brakes. For the first 2 or 3 rides from new, they were exceptional. It all went quickly downhill from there. They've not needed bleeding once, but despite this they have barely any power unless you put new pads in every ride!

I gave them far too long a stay of execution based on how incredible they felt for the first few rides. Eventually gave up, swapped for Shimano XT's, and am now have (slightly grabbier) brakes that just work!

Specialized Ground Control S-Works tyre. Cut on the first proper ride and now useless tubeless. It's all well and good making a tyre light but if it's flimsier than clingfilm, it's pretty useless.

Race Face BBs and E13 BBs in BB92 pressfit.

Both failed after one wet ride. Rubbish.

Fitted a Rotor one now and it's been ace so far.

Schwalbe tyres in general. Nobby Nic lasted 3 months before getting sliced and then all the grip disappearing from the centre tread.

My Hans Dampf was awesome for about 3 months, then all the side knobs fell off, and then the centre section lost all grip.

Replaced with Maxxis DHF and DHR2, which have been excellent.
