[Closed] Worn / broken derailleur hanger tab - when the B screw meets it. Any options?

[#2399402]

I've think I've been a bit hamfisted over the last few years. Anyway's my old GT avalanche started misbehaving in the biggest cogs. Looks like where the B screw meets the hanger has worn right through the hanger.

So the B screw now just 'misses' the whole hanger - so there's less tension.

I've tried fitting a longer B screw through from the other side which is better but is now "leaning" on whats left of the tab (rather than pushing against it).

So apart from a new hanger (£20+) does anyone have any good ideas? It's my hack bike so nothing expensive. Oh, and singlespeed is out!

Any help / advice much appreciated 🙂

What the hanger used to look like:

I've bodged one of those before. You need two nuts that fit the screw, and possibly a slightly longer screw. Hopefully all in your bits box.

Put both nuts onto screw then screw into mech. Tighten bottom nut against mech to stop it moving around. Use upper nut to press against hanger. It should sit where the little tab bit used to be but won't go round the corner, if that makes sense.

Had to do it on mine as it wasn't a replaceable hanger. Frame now sadly deceasedso no pics of what I'm on about but I hope it's clear.

Just buy a new hanger and do the job properly!

If andrewh's idea doesn't quite work could you trap a washer between two nuts to get ever further round the corner?

andrewh - Thanks again for your near instant reply early doors. It looks like my reply (and possibly others) have vanished!
