on xmas day tails from here calls me and says my bike is on ebay,
bushwacked and a few bid on it and bushwackeds account gets hacked so ebay remove his bid. bushwacked then emailed them direct offering to buy it.
anyway, bigl from here arranges to buy it cash on boxing day and meet at baldock services to get it.
thieves turn up, drive into the carpark, see me and get away without the arranged police doing a thing!!!
as they drove out my mate chaos was coming in and saw my bike in their car and gave chase until losing them on the a10.
we all combed hertford and then see the car and driver but no bike and passenger. the police make an arrest that night.

thief claims to have dumped the bike to the police.

yesterday they emailed bushwqcked offering to sell it to him!
we liased with undercover police and they got 2 more thieves in nick

🙂

thats only the bare bones of the story

"thieves turn up, drive into the carpark, see me"

so they knew who you were. Not just an opportunistic theft then?

Good on you for getting the bike back but are you saying they know who you are? Just hope this is the end of it for you.

Good point, plus on the back of the article I think Jedi should be approached about becoming a mag tester for the burlier bikes that they can review?

well done, did you get it back complete?

How stupid are they?
If they saw you @ the meet, why email BW again, surely you'd have expected them to put 2+2 together... great result though.

I'm fed up with bikes being tested by people who know what they're doing, anyway.

Why don't they let clueless numpties loose on them and see what they can come up with? I'm available for this role if asked, btw.

I agree it would be good, cheery happy new year story, perhaps for the website.

Would be great if once charged and found guilty the culprits can have their photos circulated to all trail centres and bike shops.

Great idea, but I wouldn't mind betting someone somewhere would be jumping up and down about it "breaching their human rights".

Cracking news. Good to hear someone who wanted their bike back that much rather than just rolling over and admitting defeat and claiming the insurance. If everyone was as commited as you then all our insurance premiums would drop!

Nice idea DWB but I'll wager it would just mean insurance companies get richer!

Still, good news Jedi. Glad to hear the thieving scum didn't get away with it.

I'm still holding out hope that i'll spot mine on the bay or in some classified somewhere...there cant be that many pimped 16 inch mk1 Kona A's out there...

not to mention the other 3 they stole from me, including some one-off green (but no the current light team-green) hope hubs which will be hard to miss....

anyway, congrats Jedi!

I've been on the receiving end of 2 bike thefts (thankfully both over 9 years ago now) - in both cases I'd have rather tracked down and recovered the bikes rather than have the insurance money...

Coincidence or related to the thieves? Either way, an unfortunate time for it to happen.

I don't know you Jedi, but I've always been impressed by your pics and vids. I'm really pleased that you got your bike back - sounds like you could teach the plods and ebay a thing or two.
