outside the post office for 15 mins yesterday. well i didn't my mate did and i stood on the opposite side of the street keeping an eye on it.

it was left right outside the exit/entrance to the post office and 2 metres away from a bus stop. several buses pulled up. lots of people got off. no-one gave the bike a second look.

this is in germany. not sure if i'd have had the same result in the UK.

go figure.

Glad your mate's bike didn't get nicked, but I'm not sure this example is really statisically significant. I'm sure you can find places in Germany where it'd get nicked in that scenario, just as I'm sure you can find places in the UK where you can lean your bike for 5 mins unsecured and not have it pinched.

You might be surprised. I left my bike unlocked by accident during work in a city centre, it was there when I came out.

yeah, the UK is a really nice place to live, we just love moaning and hence shouting louder when things get stolen.

Oh right.
So that's why your mate's landlady appears as a model in a German catalogue.

It's all becoming clear now.
