True. Driving around in an empty car park covered in snow is one of the most delightful things I've done recently. Wheeee!

On a trip to Canada a few years back, one of the people we were staying with took us onto a frozen lake in the car ( trucks use it during winter months, so proper 'ice road trucker' frozen it was )

Anyway, doing donuts and hand brake turns was great fun.

so there we are going across this lake at 60KPH to the next town, being driven by this lovely girl. 'Very kind of you to spend so much time with us, showing us around'

'oh I'm off work for a while she said, no problem.

What do you do for work, I asked.

Back came the reply... im an ambulance driver.

As you can imagine, we all felt so much safer now, belting along this frozen lake.

How many holidays to you get, we asked.

I'm not on holidays, im on sick leave she said.

Why? nothing to serious I commented.

No, not really . .. . I rolled the Ambulance !!!!!

Not sure I agree that graph is linear. Should be a reverse hockey stick, gentle gradient at first, and then a steep drop off when you realise that you have zero traction but would really like to brake/change direction.

The fear is anything but linear.

I told my son to head for the huge deserted BAE systems car park close to where he lives to get some practice in controlling skids on ice. Old bill turned up within 10 minutes to give him a formal warning under section 59 of the road traffic act. "Vehicle used in a manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance" Quite who to remains a mystery...
