My trusty old wire cutters that I bought from Screwfix a few years ago after a PSA on here have had to be retired.

Any recommendations for a new pair? Ideally some that can do outers as well but That may have to be a separate purchase

Knipex or Maun are both industry leaders.
Don't buy 'bike brand' generic tools as you'll usually pay more for the blue handle..

Mine are these from PX, they work a load better than the rather expensive Park cutters I bought before.

I’ve had my Park ones for about 17 years now. Handles are a bit grubby but they still work just fine.

Knipex. They are really nice and cut perfectly.

Probably not great value for the home mechanic as I'm sure they'll outlast me. If you like nice tools though...

For outers and cables spend the money and get some Park ones. I've got decent wire cutters, hose cutters etc - but I reach for the Park ones every time as they're brilliant, and much better than slightly cheaper ones.

Another vote for the Park here, had them a long time and still good.

My halfords ones are good for inners and outers.  For hydraulic hoses best bet is to get one of the generic ones which cost about a fiver and do the job perfectly well.

Felco for the "buy once, never buy again" option.

Other bike brand cutters (e.g. Pedro's) are just cheap Asian knockoffs of the Felco with an inflated price tag.

I used to have the Pedro's one which sometimes randomly frayed the cable unless I got the grip exactly right. Donated it to a local bike repair cooperative and bought a Felco cutter which cuts like a hot knife through butter.

For outers I use a Dremel after a recommendation from my LBS.

Cheap "wire rope cutters" off ebay. You can get the draper ones for a quid more if you must have a blue handle, or the Pedros ones for about 300% of the price if it's got to have a bike brand on it, but they're the same.

Thanks for all the recommendations. It does appear that many of them look identical but just rebranded and varying massively in price. I’ll probably go for the Planet X or the Draper ones.

Cheers

Cable cutters 6" with the two different sized scalloped edges for inner and outers, I have some old school knipex heavy duty but prefer the shaped cutting edge ones, screwfix used to sell some cheap unbranded ones but have replaced them with magnusson 8" ones, theres plenty 6" ones on Ebay for under £10 which have better sized, shaped blades for inners and outers and leave a really nice cut.
Theres a nice bit for squeezing the cable tidy onto inner cables too.
