Hello.

Looking at getting some tyres for winter and was wondering what people recommend?

Was loking at Dirty Dan 2.35 super gravity VERTSTAR up front and a Magic Mary 2.35 Super Gravity Trail Star on the rear.

Anyone run this set up?

My Cove is running 2.35 Hans Dampf Super Gravity tyres - VertStar front and Trailstar rear. I can certainly vouch for that combination of compound - and the SuperGravity setup is fantastic. The VertStar is amazingly grippy, but try running it through crunchy snow and you'll soon be struggling - it sticks like velcro !

That is a lot of tyre- the DD is a full on spike. What are you going to do with it? The trouble with spikes is, they don't like hard stuff- they tend to feel squirmy because of the longer knobs.

Magic Mary front, Hans Dampf rear. Deals with muddy off piste trails and trail centre hardpack just fine.

I was running minion and ardent all winter but my winter looks different.
Start with what you want and work back from there

To the OP, that is a lot of tyre!.....are you racing Champery in 2011 Danny Hill winning conditions?....no?....then you can probably ditch the Dan.

I got through the worst of last winter with Mary's on front and bank.

Geax Datura does a similar job for a quarter of the price but I think On One have finally sold out....the Spesh Hillbilly works well as a reasonably good rolling mud rear and is cheap too....but definitely a Mary or Shorty up front, the Dan is overkill IMO.

Far be it for me to agree with people on here, but I'm going with the general consensus here that that is a whole lotta tyre! You'd get fit pedalling them around mind.

Trailstar 2.35 Magic Mary up front and Pacestar 2.35 Nobby Nic out back on my Full sus, probably go back to 2.3 Shorty up front and 2.25 Beaver out back on my HT when the trails turn, which they haven't yet to be fair.

I ran MagicMary Trailstars front and rear over last winter and kept them on until the summer when I managed to split a rear sidewall racing at Tweedlove and then the front sidewall at Inners a couple of months later. Think I'll stick with Maxxis this year so will try a shorty upfront and a Minion DHR2 on the back (29er).

I think strava needs to add in a regional/seasonal tyre heat map ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I'm going to go for a storm control for the rear of my hardtail. Effective for the mudfest that my local rides resemble for six months a year.

Sticking with Nobby Nics 2.25 (Pacestar) on the back of my "normal" (29 and 26) bikes as I seem to get on fine with them (others hate them, I know). Currently running Hans Dampf 2.35 (Trailstar) on the front. Might switch to Magic Mary, but that depends if I end up using these bikes at all over the winter (see my first answer).

Haha thats me told ๐Ÿ˜‰

Where I'm riding is wet and muddy all winter. Currently running a Minion front and a high roller rear and its slipping all over the place. So maybe just go for a pair of Magic Mary super gravity trail stars then?
