At the minute just using jeans which are warm enough but crap when it rains as they suddenly become very cold and heavy, soaking up all the water and mud etc. I can't really afford bike brand stuff so am looking at sports direct etc. Anyone tried these or similar and were they any good? Dont think I need full waterproof as it'll be too sweaty but a bit water repellant would be nice.

And are those woolie boolies still the best socks? My feet were like blocks of ice this evening, and its not even that cold yet. At the minute using thick Brasher hiking socks but they don't seem to be doing the job.

Do you just wear those under normal shorts or what?

edit - and which ones are good? dhb are a nice price but the reviews on wiggle reckon they're not much use for winter.
