Is there any recommended winter loops/rides around Ramsbottom? Heading out to see a mate who lives in Littleborough, and he's sick of going to Lee Quarry.
Looking for something around 10 miles, tech/features/singletrack very very welcome.
I've tried segment explorer on strava, which shows some segments, but no indication of whether they'll be ridable in winter!
I've tried using the search - but the google search mucks up the date relevancy - so I end up with posts from decades ago.
The trails around Piethorne reservoir (park at Hollingworth and ride along the bridleway under the M62) are good all year round. Nothing techy but could get a decent 10 mile loop in.
Piethorn is a good shout if you start at L/boro.ย If you need Rammy because of refreshment options there are loads of routes over towards Egdworth around Peel monument, or head north and around Crowthorn.
Start from Ramsgreave - to Ramsbottom via motorway bridge and steps of doom - park along river - summerseat - back up to Ramsgreave via fields/tracks/road
One of my absolute favourite single speed rides
binners to the forum.
*Goes to dig out the picture of the last time @plumber attempted to ride the Steps of Doom*
From Rammy our usual Winter Route is the Tour De Reservoirs round the horseshoe, drop down to Entwistle, then round the back of Wayoh and Jumbles reservoirs. Its all hardpack. which you'll want to stay on because the moors are a quagmire. The last few miles are on the road back, but it does drop you nicely to the Hare and Hounds for a pint. In fact you'd be best parking there at the start. You can hose your bike off in the beer garden when you're done
