With a heavy heart I have just dug out my full length steel mug guards, steel fork and tiagra tripple groupset to build the winter bike back up.
Lets see those winter hacks...
I use my plastic summer bike all year just pop some lights on.
I use the same frame but change everything else, bit like Triggers broom.
It's just my 853 featch built for me by Andy Thompson in 97 with salmon guards.
It'll be doing my 40 mile commute tomorrow.
Winter trainer and commuter (I put SPDs on when not commuting).

The Langster now has open sports not the hideous stock wheels.
The Lynskey frame is now for sale as i need the money for my new kitchen (replacing with 2nd hand alu/carbon frame next week) ๐

Ah there is a most cunning plan you see. Sometimes I do a bit of rough stuff and you can elevate those guards so mud and snow don't get packed in there.
The inner....well sorry no excuse there, but it is a 42 and the cassette is 24 top so no nancy boy gearing here

what's that rear exposure light like?
I'm tempted to get one but wondered if it draws much charge off the front?
I've only got my new bike for winter as well as summer riding, perhaps I should build my old (harsh) alu frame up again...
That 1x1 up there ^ is great!
I don't have one I sold it to postierich :'( lol
gotta have full length proper guards.anyone claiming they ride their carbon what not all winter long clearly aint riding that often, or lives somewhere nicer than yorkshire weatherwise.
Or ride in groups. Not very nice riding with someone who hasn't got mud guards.

indeed. flap wars ensure over here quite regularly. mine is an old 'for sale' sign...
not sure I really get the point in having different bikes for each season.
well... see above really.

I use mine all year round, why would frame material dictate what season you use the bike in?
it doesnt. the inability to fit full length guards does.
raceblades/guards are ok, but as mentioned above your riding mates will want to stab you after a while, and they really dont stop your bike and yourself getting covered in cack like proper guards do.
winter bikes exist for a reason. i've nothing against folks riding their summer bikes all winter, just having tried it for a single season i realised very quickly that i needed more guardage.
also you miss the joy of pulling out your race bike in april time and overnight going 3-4 mph faster!
This Hewitt Alpine Carbon one of mine was designed to accomodate full guards and 28 tyres and is carbon.
So some do exist that allow the weight and ride qualities of carbon, but still allow full gurd coverage and as with mine some rack fixings as well.
All I'm saying is carbon is not just for summer nowadays, others also offer the same, Dolan Dual and Ribble I believe have just released one.

I'm not sure my speed would change TBH, thats a reflection on my lack of fitness ๐
To be honest having always had bikes previously that took full mudguards, I needed a bike quick this spring due to car/ bike interface on the way to work and picked up this px frame locally second hand. Having stuck some race blade longs on it, I know can't really see that I will swap it for a bike that can take full guards again. The Longs have aren't quite as good as full guards, but even as someone who only transport to work is a bike, so it's pretty much in daily use, I really can't say I'd be that fussed. Nobody moans about them on the club runs either. I can really think why you would want to ride in the freezing wet on the road without any guards on though.

That is very true. Went out on the best bike last night and Tuesday night and speed different was very noticeable. Getting back on the Ribble this morning was like riding a tank.
