So the grimness is approaching and I want a proper winter bike but I need some inspiration. Must have disc brakes, proper mudguards, doesn't matter what frame material though a carbon fork would be a bonus. Ideally 11 speed, wheel quality doesn't matter. Any suggestions.

Missed the disc brake detail sorry
In that case, kinesis pro6 or 5t disc, frame only or the full bike option both look good

I had a look at the new Giant Defy Disc last weekend to use as a winter road bike (and for a bit of light touring)
Full mounts for bolt-on guards (I think my SKS ones will fit) 11-Speed 105, discs, etc £999.

PX Kaffenback for dull but hugely functional winter road riding.

No discs, no rack mounts, and far too nice for a winter bike.

Am very temped by these, but just think it might be a bit too rugged for my needs (which is basically tarmac/cyclepaths)

You didn't say anything about budget, so a Shand Stoater... all there except the carbon fork... 🙂

Could do with a bit more info really. What do you ride in the summer? Looking for something with a similar geo/fit? What's your budget?

An Arkose/CDF or similar will work well. Decent 28 or 32c road tyres and it wont really be 'too rugged' for winter road stuff, with the added benefit of a bit more flexibility for touring or light path use.

Wheelbase are knocking out Cannondale Synapse discs for £600. Only 10 speed Tiagra but looks a bargain to me.

Kinesis ATR?

Specialized AWOL (although I am not sure if they still do them)

James (Evans are the distributor) do some nice bikes as well.
