Currently just using Finish Line Green as per the mtb, but it gets very claggy, picks up crap on the road - what works better ?

I use FL Green as well, as well as Chain-L. To be honest I think Chain-L is just engine oil, certainly smells like it. Although it does hang around a lot longer, not sure I've got the 1000 miles per application though. Clean the chain, apply sparingly, let it soak in then wipe off the excess. It'll still spray a bit of excess.

Any wet lube is going is going to pick up road crap, just keep it topped up, give it a wipe and leave it till spring before giving it a proper clean.

FL green for me too. when it gets too claggy a quick soak of the cassette in degreaser sorts that and wiping the chain with rags cleans it up absolutely fine. The key thing is that it never ends up unlubed which ime is what happens with less messy lubes

I use Finish Line Cross Country. It comes in a green bottle so might be the same as the posters above are using.

I use the Blue Extreme lube on my mtb and road bike.

As an example after an off road ride my Five and I are covered in mud but the chain and cassette remains clean.

People have even stopped me whilst on Cannock Chase to ask what I have used, it really is that good.

Curvature - I presume you re-apply it after each wet MTB ride?

I have a bottle but it seems to go down very quick and not last any longer than normal lube. I've wondered if I'm doing it right.

Same as any other bike - putoline chain wax in the melt on the stove tin. cheap, effective, messy faff to apply. I believe my chain life is several times as long compared to finish line green.

£18 a kilo rather than a fiver for a wee bottle. I have been using the same time for a couple of years on several bikes

For the road bike, I like the ceramic stuff (a few brands do it). It takes a couple of applications and even then it'll often look like there's no lube on the chain. Put in a few miles and when you look at it again, there's a lovely shiny film of lube. It seems to adhere really well, you don't need much and it's very "clean".

Oh - I measure chain life in the "thousands" of miles. I reckon I've used two last year - and that's around 7,000 km.

Pro Gold

I use it on the mtb in summer and road bike all year round. Don't clag and protects ok. Not enough for mtb in winter though.

Trying the new muc-off C3 stuff atm and it seems pretty good, lasts well and doesn't seem to gunk up as much as finish line wet does.

I use white lightning wax lube on the road bike and the same on the commuter in summer. Great lube but not so good for winter on the commuter. I'm using some wet lube which is okay but very messy when you're used to wax.

Whats the putoline chain wax like in the wet tj? Does it need reapplied often?

Chain-L was my choice , it's a bit of a faff though very good but this winter i've started using Shimano wet lube which is by far the best i've used - it lasts for a ride at least and runs very clean plus it makes the bike ride like it's on slicks almost
