I suffer from poor circulation and wore overshoes for years with limited success. Invested in some MW91s and haven't looked back since. If it's really cold I can put overshoes over them, but rarely need to.

I have three sets of winter boots.. as I think there a worthwhile investment.
Love my MT91's and actually wear them all year round, a great "hike a bike" boot too.
MW81's for proper winter boot that tries to keep the water out.
Lake MXZ303's for when the temp goes subzero (I seeming suffer more than most with cold toes).

After wasting lots of time and money on overshoes (just try them in snow...) and winter boots (heavy and sweaty), I use my summer riding shoes (Shimano MO88) with decent wind/waterproof socks. Keep the wind and water out and you'll be warm and comfortable.

replaced my mw81s with mt91s this year great shoe.

waterproof socks just made my feet cold trapping the sweat in... merino lined sealskinz in sub zero conditions. feet were just clammy and cold. Then theres the fact that they seem to be made for people with square feet.

id rather just wear thick woolie socks and let the water drain out than pool up inside.

Overshoes offroad were a waste - come off when walking even MT500s - that said i used to buy a pair for the puffer 24 and duct tape the overshoes to my feet to keep the worst off my winterboots and retain toasty toes. also although on road they are great.

I use Shimano AM45. The issues I find is the same as trail_rat. The AM45 take a while to get wet, but when they do they essentially act like a wetsuit and keep your feet warm.
