[#10201809]

Looking into getting my first cycling specific clothing which is suitable for winter commuting.

I'm thinking something thin as a base and then a long sleave perhaps slightly wind proof jersey that I can wear when its not wet. Then either a waterproof or windproof outer for light showers.

I like the look of Rapha, Café du Cycliste and Ashmei gear

Would love to actually see some items in person rather than something that has just been photographed well.

What are people's thoughts? What do you wear in the winter in varying conditions?

Castelli Perfetto does all of those things in one.

Base layer, cycling jersey, gilet and arm warmers. Versatile and can remove layers to suit conditions.

Gilets are a really useful bit of kit. Keeps the wind and light showers off, but easy to stash in rear pocket.

The Castelli Perfetto looks good and is comparatively well priced. I was checking out the rest of their range and the Alpha Ross also looks interesting but twice the price

Base layer(s) and a pertex top was my go-to combination for years. Decades, even. A pair of good stretch fleece bib leggings too for colder days. Lightweight goretex for when it was raining properly. Good warm gloves are important too.

Second the gillet and armwarmers. I have a 7£ one from Lidl. Is the most used bit of cycle clothing and combined with armwarmers can transform the range of the kit you are wearing. Even when raining it's mainly what I ware. Softshell under if cold. Don't focus on dry focus on comfortable

South East coastal winter or Scottish winter?
